Meet that.okie.pack

My dogs have an instagram all of their own that captures their adventures, daily life, gear, and more! They're not spoiled at all, right? If you don't follow them, you should! Our account is that.okie.pack and we'd love to follow you!

All of these guys have been my adventure pals starting in 2016 shortly after my husband and I got married. Pretzel was a "wedding gift" to my husband and Kermes a.k.a Misa, came 6 months later. At the time we lived in North Carolina where the State Parks and hiking trails weren't scarce. In fact, we hiked 3-4 times a week!

Pretzel is 100% my husband's dog, so you won't see me talk a ton about her. She's a very good girl, but is not involved in my adventures unless my husband comes too. She's his sidekick, not mine, but that doesn't mean she's not important here. Pretzel has been the "old soul" everyone needs. Level headed but still playful and spirited. It's hard to believe she's 9 this year, and it makes me incredibly sad that time with her has flown by so fast.

Kermes is what we call our "first born". She's taken up a spot in our hearts that will never be replaced. She's truly been like our first child and it's so hard to believe she's already 8. Kermes has been hitting the trails since she was 6 months old and has never looked back. She came home when she was 8 weeks old and I was determined to have a small dog without the bad reputation they come with. She may be a little barky at times, but I promise she's the world's best little dog! We started training the day she came home and she's been so much fun to work with! She's the one who got me introduced to dog sports and even did agility and dock diving before we moved to Oklahoma. In her prime she could run 7+ miles beside my bike and still have energy at the end of my ride. She was truly WILD and is a one of a kind dog. You see why she's so special to us?

Panzer came to us when she was 7 weeks old. We were about 2 months out from moving to Oklahoma in 2019 when we got her. I was so excited to finally have my dream dog... a sable German Shepherd. She was everything I wanted and a lot I didn't. She was a blast to train and work, but also a baby shark with no "off-switch". She definitely taught me a lot and made me grow as a dog owner. I had originally started agility classes and dock diving with her until I got pregnant with my first. Sadly I haven't done a ton with her over the last 4 years other than some hiking. She's such a cool dog and honestly the most perfect shepherd you'll ever meet (she might bark once a month). Sometimes I feel like I've wasted so much of her life, but she's happy and still fulfilled and that's all that matters to her! 5 years has truly flown by so fast with her.

Last is Weasel. I have a lot to say about Weasel. She's... different. Quite possibly the most challenging dog I've worked with, which says a lot considering I worked with thousands working at animal control. Weasel came to me late fall of 2023. She was 6-7 months old, completely unsocialized, and petrified of being touched. Especially by men. I was told by the lady that her husband had health problems so they needed to rehome her (but not their other 2 dogs). When I met them, her husband seemed perfectly fine to me. I know it's not my place to judge, but I truly believe he hated Weasel (then named Maya) and had gotten extremely rough with her. I've worked with thousands of dogs working for animal control and it's pretty clear when a dog is fearful because of the lack of exposure to men and when they've been mishandled roughly by men. We've had her for 9 months now and my husband still cannot touch her without her acting like she's dying and peeing everywhere. She even reacts that way to me if I scare her. It's been a very long process working with her, socializing her, and getting her to where she is today. It's taken a LOT of confidence building, patience, more confidence building, and more patience. Especially when I have to go back and fix my own errors. I'm very happy to say that she's quite confident now going out in public and even around fireworks. Her only problem is with people trying to handle her, which we will eventually work through. So far, Weasel has made a great barn buddy and hiking buddy! She loves playing with all the dogs at the barn and has found her place walking the hiking trails of all the places we've been to this year.

Most of my instagram includes Weasel and Panzer due to them being the most active (sorry to my old ladies) and due to me working with Weasel and all her quirks. I really hope you guys follow along on their adventures and stay tuned to future posts including my favorite collar makers, leashes, crate tags (I have discount codes), and more!
